The 58th GCV Conservation Forum, “Clean Energy: Exploring Wind and Solar,” was held November 3, 2016, at the Paramount Theater in Charlottesville. The Elizabeth Cabell Dugdale Award for Meritorious Achievement in Conservation was presented to William S. Portlock for his “dedication to conservation education and his lifelong devotion to the preservation of our natural resources.”

The inaugural Garden Club of Virginia Conservation Educator Award was presented to the Roots and Shoots Intergenerational School Garden Program, co-founded by Molly Brown and her late husband, Dirck.

The 59th GCV Conservation Forum, “Fracking in Virginia: From All Perspectives,” was held on October 27, 2017, at the Paramount Theater in Charlottesville. The program included: “Principles of American Natural Gas Development” presented by Josh Ball, Senior Foreman of Drilling and Completions, Central Appalachian Region; “A View from Outside Virginia” presented by Larry Schweiger, President and CEO, PennFuture; and panelists Richard Moncure, Tidal River Steward with the Friends of the Rappahannock; Angela Navarro, Deputy Secretary of Natural Resources, Commonwealth of Virginia; Kristin Davis, Staff Attorney, Southern Environmental Law Center; Ruby Brabo, Chairwoman, King George County Board of Supervisors; David Clarke, Attorney with the law firm of Eckert Seamans; and moderator Will Cleveland, Southern Environmental Law Center. The Conservation Educator Award was presented to Jody Ullmann, program director of Lynnhaven River NOW, Pearl Programs.
